Toward Realization of Smart Manufacturing Systems

Collaborative design and implementation of monitoring/visualization system considering
diversity of machine tools

In order to maintain and improve the competitiveness of the manufacturing industry, implementation of smart manufacturing is crucial. As a case of this implementation, we have investigated the realization of production management by integrating on-site knowledge, the knowledge of machine tools, and the activity data, which is obtained from machine tools in a (even distributed) production line regardless of tools types and manufacturers. Herewith the report of this study is released as a result of one of the activities of the Industrial  Machinery Steering Committee formed in WG for manufacturing business revolution through IoT of Robot Revolution Initiative.

In continuation of the activity of the previous year, in which the information modeling of use cases such as operation state tracking, quality control, and predictive maintenance was studied, the Industrial Machinery Steering Committee has designed and experimented the common expression of data obtained from machine tools regardless of tools types and manufacturers. The prototype of the machine tool monitoring system has been developed to help decision makings that require the integration of on-site knowledge, the knowledge of machine tools, and the activity data, which is obtained from machine tools in a (even distributed) production line. The committee will promote the activity to solve the issues made clear through the experiment. A part of this work is based on results obtained from a project commissioned by the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO).
