Discussion paper – Advancing Semantic Interoperability Layer as an enabler for AI-driven Manufacturing Transformation – Shifting from Static Dictionaries to a Dynamic Process –
Semantic interoperability in manufacturing is essential for a shared understanding of specifications between manufacturers and stakeholders, and for coordinating interactions between equipment in multi-vendor environments. Recently, requirements such as au-tomated Carbon Footprint (CFP) and Product Data reporting have increased its im-portance for AI-based industrial data use.
Semantics is often treated as static, like fixed dictionary definitions, but it should be viewed as a dynamic process that evolves with new properties and functions. In smart manufac-turing, enabling cross-domain information flow requires a flexible framework where multi-ple domain-specific dictionaries can coexist and interoperate.
Experts from Germany and Japan outline these challenges and proposes solution ap-proaches to support integrated discussions across standardization bodies.
